Billy the Kid

It has been believed that Billy was born in New York City, but more recently some historians believe that he might have been born in Indiana.
No proof of his birth date exists to this day. Ash Upson, the man who wrote most of Pat Garrett’s 1882 book, gave Billy’s birthday as Nov. 23, 1859. (Nov. 23 was Ash Upson’s birthday).
Billy the Kid’s real name was Henry McCarty, his aliases were "The Kid", Kid Antrim, William H. Bonney, Billy Bonney, and Billy the Kid, this last alias was pinned on him by a newspaperman from the Las Vegas Gazette, Vegas, NM, Dec.3, 1880, about 8 months before Billy was killed.
One of Billy’s outstanding qualities was his ability to use both hands equally well (called "ambidextrious"). Documentation shows that Billy shot 4 men himself and was present and shooting when five other men died. However, there exists no proof that it was Billy who killed them.
Billy was shot down by Sheriff Pat Garret in the dark bedroom of Pete Maxwell, at Old Fort Summer, the night of July 14, 1881. He is buried in the military cemetery at Fort Summer; New Mexico.
With his '40s Western series Bob Steels originated the role of the famous outlaw Billy the Kid whom he presents as a basically good-hearted guy.
